Demolition Drive

The demolition drive against illegal constructions in Delhi is creating a lot of furore. A number of such illegal constructions are important and big establishments, which are difficult to pull down, if not for anything else, then certainly on humanitarian grounds. The government officials should have been vigilant enough, in the first place, to stop such constructions. Now that the constructions have been there for so many years, they cannot be easily destroyed. The small settlers are being made the scapegoats, and there is every likelihood, considering the furore, that those with political back-up will be spared. It is better to legalise some such constructions, with due considerations to details, instead of demolishing them at random.
