Reserve and Rule

It seems that the word, 'secular' in the Indian Constitution is losing its credibility. How on earth can there be a reservation, and that too to the tune of 50%, for students following a particular religion, for getting admission to a university? Actually, the names of religions should be deleted from the names of educational institutions, unless they are specifically or, for that matter, primarily, for religious studies. Is it not utterly baseless to give precedence to religion - something that comes by birth over educational merit - something which is acquired over time? The United Progressive Alliance government at the centre, after all, is not proving to be that much progressive. This move of the HRD Ministry can actually be taken as a measure destined to promote communalism. It is unfortunate that the imperialistic 'divide and rule' policy is being revived, though perhaps not deliberately.
