Central Sickness

The greater autonomy for Public Sector enterprises recommended in the Report on Empowerment of Central Public Sector Enterprises is certainly welcome when it is known to all that certain PSUs are too sick for years together primarily due to the over-involvement of some ministers and government officials. It remains to be seen though, how fast and to what extent the recommendation is accepted and then how effectively it is implemented. There is no reason why such PSUs can be allowed to make profits, even after abiding by the dominant public service motive.
