Dam Across Unrest

As the old saying goes, better late than never, the Narmada dam should be now utilized to its full capacity. The enormity of the Gujarat floods this season could have been lessened had the Sardar Sarovar dam project as originally conceived been allowed to be materialised which would then have allowed the dam system to divert some quantity of the excess water to the parched areas and the rest stored in reservoirs for future use. The administration should learn to discriminate the genuine, rational agitations from the over-enthusiastic, baseless ones, as the latter, if heeded to, leads to waste of valuable resources.
