Slipping On Oil, Burning In Fire
The Mumbai High fire only goes to underline the lack of fire safety measures adopted by ONGC in its oil wells. The ONGC Videsh is going great guns in exploring oil abroad, but its big brother back home is still clinging on to outdated fire prevention techniques. It is a matter of basic economics to leave no holes unplugged when it comes to investing in safety measures in such a high-risk business as that of crude oil production. The faster the ONGC understands it and acts accordingly, the better.
