Got Stuck

The sailor of the barge that got stuck underneath the Howrah Bridge should have gauged that it was dangerous to try to sail on that route. One wonders why he did not try to stop the vessel, when he could see the bridge low enough not to allow its easy passage. The concerned authorities should see to it that the damaged portion is fully repaired, without resorting to stop-gap economical arrangements. And the river traffic regulating authority should be more cautious so as avert such untoward incidents in future.
