Scripting Success

The official return of Meitei script to Manipur is a landmark achievement for the people of the state and Chief Minister, Mr. Okram Ibobi Singh deserves all the praises for effecting the change. But his otherwise good job will only be half accomplished, if he is not able to restore the respect for Bengali in the hearts of those whom he represents. After all, love for one's own script should not be manifested at the expense of another, which, though once imposed, has served the written expression and communication needs of the people for nearly three centuries.
