Unfortunately, India's scholarly Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has allowed himself to come under the unwanted excess influence of Ms. Sonia Gandhi. With due respect to Ms. Gandhi, Dr. Singh should try and come out of her shadow. There is no point in acting the token Prime Minister, especially in a country like India where politicians are often judged not quite on the basis of what they do, but rather on the basis of how they do the same. Dr. Singh, in spite of his own competence, is still not a hugely popular public figure. There is no reason why he should willingly be swayed by her decisions.
