Ways Of Indian Cricket

The sacking of Sourav Ganguly from the Team India Test squad only goes to show the incompetence and the lack of farsight of the national selectors. There was no reason to think of sacking Gautam Gambhir only because of his failure in three innings, especially when had been giving the Indian middle-order a solid foundation consistently in the previous Test matches. The point is that Wasim Jaffer has no place in the Indian team as yet, in spite of having a good run the domestic circuit. When Irfan Pathan has scored ninety-three runs and scored them in a copybook manner, befitting a modern-day Test opener, there is no reason why a specialist opener is required as a cover for injury to either Virender Sehwag or Gambhir. Moreover, Wasim Jaffer is reportedly a lazy runner between the wickets, and infamous for his sloppy fielding - things that are supposedly a mismatch with the current trend of Team Chappell. Sourav Ganguly, after his good support to Sachin Tendulkar in the first innings and Yuvraj Singh in the second innings, should have been retained in the squad. Notwithstanding Ajit Agarkar's good support to Irfan Pathan and Anil Kumble, Zaheer Khan should have got a look-in on the ground of his good recent form and his general penetration, where he scores higher than Agarkar.
