Smashing Glory

Sania Mirza's performance in the US Open ladies singles has been stupendous. She is the maiden women's tennis icon in India. One can only wish that her tremendous run of success inspires the likes of Shikha Uberoi and Neha Uberoi to play out of their skin in the Sunfeast Open. A word of thanks should also go to Mahesh Bhupathi's Globosport for putting Kolkata on the women's tennis schedule. Now perhaps India can pin her hopes on the smashing Sania to bring home an Olympic gold medal from Beijing 2008 itself and also the country's maiden singles Grand Slam title, perhaps even earlier than that.
