On A Wrong Track

The train accident in Andhra Pradesh goes to show how ill-maintained railway tracks and reservoirs are in India. No doubt the rains were heavy. But had the reservoir been better maintained, it would have been able to withstand the water pressure, and had the railway personnel been more vigilant, they could have stopped or diverted the ill-fated train. Instead of the usual politicising of every issue, the concerned authorities should own up the responsibility of the accident and see to it that such mishaps do not occur in the future. The Railways should take a leaf out of the Konkan Railways, in India itself, which, at least on paper, is much better equipped to counter such calamities.
