Pick And Drop

One fails to understand why the accusing finger is being pointed at Rahul Dravid of all persons, for dropping Sourav Ganguly from the Indian Test squad. One good thing about the agitation against the sacking of Ganguly this time is that the question of India is getting precedence over that of Bengal and cricket as a sport is being regarded as more important than Sourav Ganguly as an individual, as a cricketer and as a Bengali. It is good to see that Sourav Ganguly fans are not really unpatriotic as they proved at the Eden Gardens when the alienated home team took on South Africa in a one-dayer late last month. One reason for this may be that this time there is no logical reason, genuine or cooked up, for dropping Ganguly. Even Wasim Jaffer has expressed his surprise at being included in the Team India Test squad in place of Ganguly, who has a totally different onfield role than Jaffer.
