The demonstration against the US warplane tests at Kalaikunda was a flop show. The demonstrators much less in number than what was expected themselves turned out to be awe-struck beholders of the air show. There is no point in holding such token demonstrations and the organisers of such protests should understand that the Central Government is not going to pay any heed to such petty protests in implementing its defence deal with the US. In any case, the sovereignty in the country is under no threat only by engaging in high-profile defence deals with a foreign superpower. Moreover, defence costs are bound to escalate following the raging spree of terrorist attacks in the country and the increasing skirmishes along India's international borders.
