Mend The Roads
The recent heavy downpour in Kolkata is a testimony to the largely erratic nature of the monsoons and perhaps, more importantly, to the efficiency of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. The rains never seemed like stopping and the water never seemed like receding from the roads and avenues, and streets and lanes. The KMC people seemed complacent over the drainage condition of Kolkata being better than that of Mumbai. But Kolkata never faced a near-1000 mm of rain in twenty-four hours as Mumbai had a few months back. It is the duty of the KMC personnel to make people stop littering the roads with polythene packets, which go to choke the drains, furthering the woes of the Kolkatans. The allegations get hushed with amazing regularity and efficiency, but the roads never seem to get patched up, except prior to the municipal elections. Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya better enhance the rate of development of the Kolkata roads, keeping aside mud-spilling on the opposition for the time being.
