Girls In Doldrums
The Delhi High Court's ruling that a girl can marry on reaching the age of fifteen is in gross violation of statute that a girl cannot marry until she has reached the age of eighteen. It is difficult to gauge the motive of the Delhi High Court in giving the verdict that a minor girl can marry. The glaring fact that though child marriage has been condemned, its abolition has still not been put to total effect, is no excuse for the court to give a verdict that effectively promotes child marriage, jeopardising the lives of many an Indian girl.
