Commonwealth Saga

The eighteenth Commonwealth Games have been a golden two weeks for India. The India shooters have taken the Commonwealth by storm, and are all set to get deserved recognition at events with greater international participation. Table tennis and boxing have also been happy hunting grounds for India. But though weightlifting has brought glory to India at this international stage, doping scandals and reactionary measures from the organizational management, has left the nation dumbfounded. The country’s sports authorities must ensure better protection of the athletes against intake of banned drugs. The onus lies with them as much with the athletes themselves. Professional medical and legal counseling of the officials and the sportspersons is the need of the hour in this regard. As the women’s hockey team slips down to the second spot, men’s hockey continues to bite dust.
