India's open air policy has meant increased competition in the country's domestic and international air transport sector. This is set to ensure increased comfort for passengers, maintaining a steady rise in India's air passengers. But for the country's civil aviation sector to consistently continue on its present track of steady development, India's tourism industry has to be given a boost. Airports are to be upgraded to meet the international standards. Especially in the north-east, where road, rail and water transports are not feasible, either in monetary or in temporal terms, air transport will have a ready market if tourism and other industries are developed.
