City Bollywood

True to the nature of any art form, Bollywood movies do depict contemporary social trends. The widening hiatus between urban and rural India is definitely reflected by the current Bollywood movies. For example, though "Dil Chahta Hai' is primarily a movie on friendship, one gets the feeling that things would not have been the same, had the three male protagonists been a shade less opulent. Nowadays, rural India hardly finds a place in Bollywood movies, 'Veer-Zaara' being an exception. But then again, whereas 'Page 3' and 'White Noise' in particular are 'typical' examples of 'multiplex' movies appealing to a select few, a movie like 'Fun...Can Be Dangerous Sometimes', though definitely based on fast posh urban life, has done reasonably well in both big and small centres.
