Poila Boisakh Pales New Year
January 1 with its wider canvas for worldwide celebrations, naturally has its impact on the Bengalis too. But Poila Boisakh with its new attires, mouth-watering delicacies straight from the home kitchen, and not to forget, the fresh set of calendars, has its own unique appeal to the Bengali hearts. The daylong exchanges of 'Shubho Noboborsho', touching the feet of the elders for blessings, with warm hugs for friends and the juniors, are red with emotions emanating right from the core of the heart. The gloss of the New Year's Day appears paler in comparison. No wonder, the breezy Poila Boisakh leaves the New Year's Day high and dry, so far as the Bengalis are concerned.
